When Erik and André Foss tied the knot on Gotland, they left expectations and traditions behind and created exactly the kind of celebration they would want to attend. With colourful Porto pieces on the tables, Corallo in the window alcoves and surprises from the ceremony to the dance floor, the wedding was personal, extravagant and playful.

A colourful yes on Gotland
Gotland was, in many ways, the natural choice for Erik and André’s wedding. André was born and raised on the island, and since meeting ten years ago, they have spent many of their holidays there together. But when it came to the wedding itself, they wanted to do things their own way.
“We wanted a personal wedding rather than a traditional one. Weddings can come with so many expectations and ideas about how things should be done. We wanted to feel completely free to create a weekend exactly as we imagined it.”
And that’s exactly what they did. Everything fun, beautiful, delicious or unexpected had its place.
“We wanted to create a weekend for our friends and family where it wasn’t just us as the couple getting surprised and celebrated, but our guests too. Our ambition was to keep surprising everyone and make sure there was never a dull moment.
From hip-hop in the ruins to a Pride parade through Visby
At noon, the guests gathered for the wedding ceremony in a ruin within Visby’s medieval city walls. But there was no traditional wedding entrance. Instead, the ceremony opened with a hip-hop performance by Incredible Dancecrew, ending with Erik and André dancing in alongside the group.
“Those who knew we’d been taking dance lessons thought we were practising our first dance. In reality, it was something completely different.”
After the ceremony, another surprise awaited. To get to the buses that would take everyone to the reception, the couple had obtained police permission to organise their own little Pride parade through Visby.
“André and I met at Stockholm Pride ten years ago, so it was a tribute to that. We walked through the streets of Visby with all our guests, dancing and singing. It was the perfect kick-start to a day and celebration that just kept going.”

Colour, chrome and Porto in centre
The celebration took place at a countryside venue in Gnisvärd, around 20 kilometres south of Visby. With both the grounds and the venue offering plenty of space, Erik and André decided not to fill every corner. Instead, they let a few large statement pieces set the tone.
An outdoor event area was created in the courtyard for a drinks reception lasting almost four hours. At the centre stood a long, cobalt-blue table set with BYON’s colourful Porto tableware collection. Inside the reception venue, the sculptural Corallo vases took pride of place in the window alcoves.
“We wanted a relaxed atmosphere throughout the day. As we decided against tablecloths and fresh flowers on the tables, the tableware became even more important. Porto immediately came to mind, with all its different colours and shapes.”
Colour played a central role, but silver was also a recurring theme. Mirrors and trays were combined with a silver photo booth and enormous silver knots that Erik and André had created themselves using ventilation ducts from a DIY store, before suspending them from the ceiling. Large paper flowers became another defining feature, moving from the ceremony to the courtyard and finally into the dining venue.
“Colour and playfulness make more of a difference than you might think. A beautiful, colourful plate can actually affect your mood. It’s much more fun to eat from a lovely little plate than a boring one, and when everyone walks around with them during the drinks reception, they become part of the whole vibe.”

Hot dogs and orange wine in syringes
During the drinks reception, guests were treated to a selection of finger food, cheeseburgers and oysters. Dinner consisted of five courses, and the only hot dish of the evening? Hot dogs.
“We wanted simple food, but just as delicious. The focus was on things we love: colourful dips, butter, salads and cheeses in different combinations. We also put a lot of thought into beautiful presentation and fun ways of serving everything.”
At one point, Erik and André dressed up as hot dog vendors, complete with serving trays strapped around their waists. They also served orange wine in syringes and, at another moment, made a surprise entrance wearing Santa hats to All I Want for Christmas Is You, handing out traditional Swedish saffron buns. Right in the middle of summer.
“Simply because we love it!”

Perfection, but on their own terms
No first dance. No wedding cake. No formal wedding photoshoot. Instead, they devoted their time and energy to what truly mattered to them. André spent hours carefully curating playlists, while sound and lighting helped create the atmosphere throughout the day.
“Our guiding principle was to keep the atmosphere at its best throughout the day rather than striving for some idea of perfection. But for us, it turned out to be perfect in our own way.”
And for anyone currently planning their own wedding and thinking about colour palettes, traditions and trends, Erik has one clear piece of advice:
“What do you want, and what matters most to you? Forget what everyone else thinks and do things your own way. There are no rules you have to follow.”
